My daughter recently got married and like all brides she wanted her Maid of honour and bridesmaid invitations to be different from what you see every day. She asked me if I could make her some invites using shadow boxes and scrabble tile.

The shadow boxes were easy to get hold of at our local budget shop and they were a nice cheap price too which was good.
I went to a few thrift stores in town and did manage to get one scrabble set, but that was not enough to do the 3 invitations that she wanted. I went online and found some wooden tiles which will work just as well. I was also able to get some tiles with a wedding theme on them which was great.
To start I removed the generic photo that came with the frame and cut out some coloured card that matched her colour scheme. This was glued to the back of the frame. The first time around I did not glue the card and the weight of the tiles pulled on the card causing a crease.
I planed where I wanted all the tiles to go, once I was happy with the whole layout I assembled the invite.
I found it very difficult to keep the tiles straight the slightest bump sent them all flying all over the place, which was not fun. After many frustrating attempts, I used some double-sided tape to try and keep the tile together. I put the tape down and used the straight edge of the frame to keep the tiles straight and then found out not all the tiles were the same size. So it would have to do.
These cute die-cut brides and groom were also found online and they went great with my invite. If you are lucky enough to have a Cricut machine you will be able to make some really unique cutouts. I glued my bride and groom in place using regular craft glue.
The box was then put back together and the invitations were complete.

Another great idea for a loved one in heaven is the memorial candle that sits on the main bridal table and is lit to represent the presence of our loved one in spirit.

March 29, 2021 at 11:24 pmWhat a fabulous idea Anita! Those wedding trainers have me laughing. When I was married, I forgot to bring mine and asked my fiancé to bring them when he came to the venue. When I opened the box, he had accidentally grabbed his shoes instead – lol!
