I am an aged care nurse in a care home and I also cover the position of the activities officer when she goes on holiday. Because I knew I was going to be doing it for a month, I wanted to try and make a new game for them to play that was interactive as well as fun. That is where the idea came for the horse racing game.
This chair was a little experiment for me. I was making a lamp out of a stump of wood and had just finished applying the varnish when the postman came with a delivery. It turned out to be the mica powder that I had ordered to add to an epoxy resin project I had in mind. So excited with my delivery I had to open it straight away. The sender had added so much tape to the package to keep it secure that I had to use a knife to get into it. Well, the knife went through a packet of blue mica powder sending it everywhere. The powder landed on my wet varnish, I quickly brushed it away and it spread all over my project. This was one of those happy mistakes because the effect was beautiful.
Like so many other Unicorn Spitters out there I am always on the lookout for new items to spit on. After my daughter left home I found her old goldfish bowl (no fish inside) in her bedroom, and I thought it would look great as a Unicorn Spit Glass lamp. But I did not like the end project so it became a Unicorn Spit glass planter.
I know what you are thinking, NOT ANOTHER IMAGE TRANSFER TUTORIAL but this is a bit different from other methods because the image is in the center of the wood which creates a whole new set of problems. As I found out first hand while making this Ned Kelly patio cooler. I searched the Web for a way to do this but I could not find one with images in the center, so hence this tutorial. I tried a couple of methods to do this project and have discovered a few since that I will share with you. These graphics were done many times before I was happy with them.
Being a DIY and craft blogger I like to try new projects to keep my hobby interesting. The downfall to changing your type of projects is that you need to buy all new craft supplies, which in the case of mixed media is expensive. To do mixed media craft you need some suitable waxes, shimmer sprays and paints. Looking online for supplies I found the cost of these products so high that is was not viable for me to buy them when I only do a handful of each type of project. To avoid the high cost of the mixed media supplies I made my own form products I had at home.
I saw this fireworks light bulb when I was on the internet one day and I thought it looked great so I ordered one. Once it arrived I could not wait to put it in my lamp but I was so disappointed because the effects were lost once the lampshade was put back on. So I wanted to try and make a wooden block lamp with no lampshade so you could see the effects of the lightbulb.
Believe it or not people, scrunchies have come back into fashion, who would have thought. My daughter is a huge fan and got a nice scrunchie collection. She asked if I would be able to make her a stand that went in her beauty bar to display all her scrunchies. This stand can be used to display scrunchies as well as jewellery.
A lady I know was advertising some old furniture that she was trying to get rid of because she was no longer able to restore them herself. I went and had a look and at the top of the heap, I saw this commode chair sticking out. On closer inspection saw the pictures on the front and it was love at first sight.
I have made a few of these tables over the past few years and I try and give each table a unique feature. For this table, I wanted to add the Greek key design. I first thought about getting a stencil made and adding the Greek key design around the border of the table. But I could not find one that had more than one repeat which would take me forever to do, and I am not the most patient DIY. So I turned to google for ideas and I found a design that made it look so simple. This tutorial is not on how to make the wine barrel table but Just how to make the Greek key top. For a wine barrel tutorial
I live in a very small town and every year our town has a Christmas light competition. Lots of houses in town decorate their garden and houses and some do it to raise money for charities. My sister takes part in these competitions and this year she wanted me to make her a large “Santa stop here” Christmas sign.
I work in a residential care home for the elderly. Some of our residents have dementia and some just plain forget what day it is. But whatever the reason we get asked a lot what day, date, and month it is. I wanted to make a large perpetual calendar so the residents could always see what day it was.
I bought Unicorn Spit after seeing it on many of the DIY sites I subscribe to. And my very generous husband treated me to a full set of colours. From the time it arrived, I was on the lookout for a piece of furniture to try it out on. Being a Unicorn SPiT Gel Stain & Glaze virgin I wanted to start off small. One of the main attractions was that you can still see the wood grain through the stain.
