Materials Needed

Step 1: Select the Perfect Wine Glasses

Choose wine glasses of 340ml or larger for ample design space. Larger glasses allow bigger fonts, reducing vinyl creases. Stemless wine glasses are trendy, so include them in your range. Source high-quality glasses from local suppliers or online marketplaces for durability and appeal.

Step 2: Prepare the Glass Surface

Clean glasses with Isocol to remove residue. Apply masking tape around the stems for a clean glitter edge. Cover the glass with a plastic bag to prevent fingerprints. Use dishwasher-safe Mod Podge for customer appeal, noting it requires 28 days to cure fully.

3. Apply Glitter to the wine glass stem

Brush on a thin layer of Mod Podge using a makeup brush. Sprinkle fine glitter over a plastic container to catch excess

.Apply multiple thin layers for a smooth finish, drying 1-2 hours between coats. Avoid sunlight drying to prevent glitter fading. Dust off excess glitter and seal with two more Mod Podge coats, and then leave to cure.

Step 4: Design Custom Decals

Use Cricut Design Space to create decals with free fonts from Dafont or 1001 Fonts, ensuring commercial use rights. Keep decals 3 inches long by 2 inches deep for 560ml glasses. Convert free SVG files from online sources using Inkscape if adding graphics. In Cricut Design Space, highlight all text and group it to ensure the text cuts exactly as shown on the screen.

Load Oracal 651 vinyl onto the cutting mat and press “Make It” in Design Space.

Step 5: Weed and Transfer the Vinyl

Weed excess vinyl using a Cricut weeding tool, leaving only the design. Use low-tack transfer tape to avoid sticking issues. Heat the glass surface with a hairdryer, then apply the decal, smoothing with a felted scraper.

6. Package Your Creations

Skip costly boxes to maximise profits. Wrap finished glasses in clear cellophane with a ribbon for a professional look. For gifts, fill glasses with chocolates. These touches enhance appeal without breaking the bank. This is very acceptable for markets.

You have inspired me, but I have not done anything like this before. How hard is it to do for a beginner. I am very good with refinishing furniture etc but nothing like this. Would you recommend buying this machine or start with something smaller to get started. I would love to see some kind of demo but not sure where to go. I am in the US. Thank you for your website. You are so talented!

Hi Pat, That was my first project using a Cricut. I am more into furniture restoration and flipping. Due to an injury, my husband bought me the Cricut to mess around with while I got better. I am not really a crafty person but this machine is so easy to use. I don’t make the cards and other features on this machine. I mainly use it in my woodworking projects. If you search “Cricut projects” on my website you will find a few projects I made with this machine. There are lots of demos on youtube you can watch. I did research and it was a toss-up between the Cricut and the silhouette cameo.

We do a lot of furniture refinishing as well, so am currently looking at your other ideas. You are so talented. I love your wine barrel table. We plan on making that, as well. I love the ice bucket idea but was considering putting a fire pit with the glass inside. Have you ever done anything like that? Also looking to make some chairs out of the wine barrels, but cannot seem to find a good style, any thoughts on that? Thanks so much!

Hi Pat. Thanks for the lovely compliment. I have seen the fire pits. Are you looking to replace the wine bucket with the firepit? The firepit would work as long as you still had the tabletop so you had something to lean on or put a drink away from the firepit. The problem with adding the glass inside is that the wine barrels are not perfectly shaped. The glass would need to be cut around all the odd shapes which were hard enough to do using wood. I recently saw a glass top on a wine barrel and there is no way to secure it to the top. Which to me is a big safety issue? I never made the wine barrel chairs because they use almost one wine barrel per chair and there is no way to recover that cost. People will just not pay for handmade furniture anymore. Search wine barrel bar stool on Pinterest they have some good ones.

OMG, Anita, you were the reason I bought a cricut, I loved this project, but haven’t tackled it quite yet!

I am very intriqued how you did the monogram styles with the cricut on your wood projects. I would like to pick your brain about that when you have some time!

Is it really that easy? I see these all the time and wonder how they are made. My mom has a crickit. I may have to give this a try! #trafficjam

Yes, they are really that easy. The hardest part is transferring the vinyl decals, but I have found cheap transfer tape works best for this.
