Are your perfume bottles cluttering your space? This DIY Perfume Display Stand Using Diamond Mesh is the perfect solution for organising your fragrance collection in style. I’m a perfume lover—and my collection was getting out of control. I needed a way to display them that was pretty, functional, and sparkly… even if I’m not exactly a girly girl. This DIY perfume stand is covered in diamond mesh and gives off the most gorgeous sparkle—something photos just can’t capture!

This is my current perfume stand, which is an option if you need storage but don’t want to make one.

Materials Needed
- Recycled timber offcuts
- 600mm x 40mm x 40mm (front step)
- 600mm x 40mm x 100mm (middle step)
- 600mm x 10mm x 150mm (back support)
- 600mm x 10mm x 350mm (base)
- Jigsaw
- Wood screws
- Power drill
- Orbital sander and sanding disc
- Diamond mesh (wedding aisle runner or similar)
- Black paint
- Spray adhesive
- Small scissors
- Wood glue
- Wood clamps
- Paper towel
Cutting and Prepping the Wood
Start by digging into your scrap wood stash and cutting the timber to the sizes listed above. Mismatched wood is fine—it’ll be covered in mesh later. I wanted a two-tier step look for added interest.

To create the curved base, I made a large compass from scrap wood to draw a semicircle. Find the centre of your base wood, draw your shape, and cut it out with a jigsaw.

TIP: Don’t forget to allow room underneath for supporting timber. I made this mistake and had to glue a second piece underneath to fix it.

Once cut, sand all your wood smooth. Since I used reclaimed wood, mine needed a good clean-up to help the spray adhesive stick later.

Assembling the Frame
Start with the front and middle steps:
- Drill and countersink pilot holes so screws sit flush.
- Screw the middle step into the front step.
- Then screw the back support into the middle step.
Because I layered the base after my cutting error, I sanded both pieces until they were flush. Leave the steps unattached from the base for now—this makes decorating easier.

Painting and Decorating
Paint all wood black so it won’t show through the mesh. I used matte black spray paint for quick coverage.

Once dry, cut your diamond mesh into strips slightly longer than each section. I used spray adhesive to attach it without glue seeping through the holes.

How to apply mesh:
- Spray the back of the mesh and the wood
- Let it get tacky (about 10 minutes)

I started with the back and worked forward. If your stand will sit in front of a mirror, cover the back too—it makes a big difference visually.

Once the stand was covered, I trimmed away the excess diamond mesh. Since the mesh is soft plastic, I used small nail scissors to carefully cut close to the edges for a neat finish.

Final Assembly
Once decorated, use wood glue to attach the steps to the base. Clamp the pieces together and place a paper towel underneath the clamps to protect the mesh.

Before the glue dries, check that the mesh lines up. I didn’t—and it was too late to fix later!

And just like that, your sparkly perfume stand is complete! It’s such a shame the camera can’t capture the shimmer properly. This stand now displays most of my perfume collection beautifully, although I may need to make a bigger one soon!

If you love the idea of a perfume stand but don’t feel this one is for you, I’ve linked a few gorgeous options below that you might like.

Here are some more storage ideas you may like.
This vintage cabinet was upcycled into a jewellery box, but with a little imagination, I can see it becoming a stunning perfume cabinet—perfect for displaying your fragrance collection in style.

I repurposed an old study desk into a makeup bar to keep all your beauty products organised in one place. It also makes a fantastic storage solution for your perfume collection, keeping everything tidy and within easy reach.

May 25, 2020 at 9:14 pmYou couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate name for your blog Anita, everything you make is always so unique and different. I’ve seen that mesh in the China Mall here in Centurion and always want to touch it coz it’s just so pretty, but never bought any. I had no idea what I could possibly use it for, until now. What a really great idea.

May 27, 2020 at 8:03 amThank you, Michelle, I have so much of the stuff my sister never does anything in half measures lol Strangely enough my website name was not my idea, I thought it was pretentious. My friends kept saying my projects were so unique, so when I asked for name suggestions for my blog this one kept coming up. So I picked it in the end.

May 26, 2020 at 8:20 pmAnita,
I spotted your post on INSPIRE ME MONDAY. Clever job, nicely done! Years ago, DH bought me a small tabletop curio cabinet from Bombay Company for the purpose of me using as a perfume cabinet. It works beautifully for that and I love it! At the time I thought his idea was quite inventive. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this DIY project that anyone can do!
