Believe it or not people, scrunchies have come back into fashion, who would have thought. My daughter is a huge fan and got a nice scrunchie collection. She asked if I would be able to make her a stand that went in her beauty bar to display all her scrunchies. This stand can be used to display scrunchies as well as jewellery.
How to make a Jewellery/Scrunchie Stand

Gather your materials
I started by looking in my scrap wood heap for wood that I would need to make this stand. Being a bit of a wood hoarder, I keep anything that is wood so I can build for free. I have built jewellery stands in the past out of recycled materials and they turned out great so here is another version. For this project, I used a wooden dowel and an old wooden curtain rail and scraps of wood.
I cut the dowel and the curtain pole to the size that I wanted, mine was 250 mm and clamped them to the table to hold them firm while I added my holes for the dowels to fit in.
I used a large drill bit the size of the dowel and drilled holes through the pole. My idea was to drill the holes and just push the dowel through. But while I was drilling, I must have gone skew because the dowel would not fit through the holes. So, make sure you drill your holes straight or use a drill press if you are lucky enough to have one.
Making the base
I cut the scrap wood to the size I wanted. Mine was 200 mm x 100 mm x 20 mm. I found the centre of my piece of wood and marked it out ready to add my hole for the centre pole.
I used a 25 mm spade bit to cut a hole all the way through the base. Because my base was not very thick this would add more support to my pole when fully loaded. I only cut halfway through at first and had to go back and do the other half when I noticed the pole was not stable.
I used a wood router with a round-over bit and removed all the edges for a nicer cosmetic look, and use an orbital sander to smooth out the surface.
Glue the stand together.
To secure my pole into the base I used epoxy glue. It was here I drill all the way through the base. I mixed the epoxy glue and added it to the inside of the hole and added my pole.
To make sure my pole was straight I used a square ruler and squared it up while the glue dried.
Because my hole had been drilled skew, I had to cut my dowel in half and glue them in place with the epoxy glue. I squared them up and let the glue dry.
It is important to make sure you mix your epoxy glue properly, so it sets. I did not do that and had to redo them after painting.
Paint the scrunchie stand
I painted the stand using acrylic paint and glued an old doorknob onto the top for a nicer look. To protect the surface of her dresser I cut some self-adhesive felt and stuck it to the bottom of the stand. And that was the stand done ready to go into her beauty bar.
So, there you have it a great Scrunchies Stand which can double as a jewellery stand.
