How to Build a Phone Charging Station

How to make a charger station

I wanted to try and build a charging station to accommodate all my devices without using all my plug sockets in the house and without all our devices lying around everywhere so I came up with this design. I think every home could do with one of these.

I printed out the shapes I wanted in Microsoft word and made the sizes from big to small to suit all my devices. I cut out the paper shape and used it as a template to cut out the wood. I had a 5 port charger so I wanted to make a stand that would let me use all the ports at the same time if I needed to. To make a ledge for the devices to sit on I cut smaller sections to fit in between the bigger ones. I used a wood router and round over bit to remove all the edges for a better cosmetic look. To assemble the stand I started with the front piece and drilled pilot holes and countersunk the screws so the next piece would sit flush and screwed them together.  I followed the same process until they were all joined together. The idea behind this design was that the iPad would sit on the ledge and the cable is plugged in and the excess cable is wrapped around the small ledge.  But it looked really messy and I did not like the look.

I then tried to make a box design. I made a box and used a wood router to add slots for the devices to sit in.  The 5 port charger will sit inside the box and the cables are hidden.  The problem with this design was that the grooves I routered out were not deep enough to hold my Ipad upright.  My last idea was to join the two designs together.  I made the routered out slots the same size as the shapes of the first design and screwed them both together.  I used a hole saw to cut some holes for the cables to come out off and added some cable tidy clips to stop the cables from falling back inside the box when unplugged.

I attached the charger inside the box using epoxy glue. This is what the inside of the box looked like.

Now all my devices sit nice and tidy in one place not using all my plug sockets. To see more great project ideas check out this horse racing game or horse racing game
