How to make your own Wedding Sneakers

Diy Wedding trainers

Every girl dreams of looking stunning on their wedding day in their beautiful wedding dress and shoes.  My daughter got married recently and her reception was on a cruise showboat around Sydney harbour.  She was afraid the movement of the boat could cause her to fall in high heels.  Not being a girly girl, she has trouble working in high heels at the best of times, but she still wants to have sparkly shoes. We had a look on the internet, and she could not find what she had in mind.  Me being the crafty one in the family I said I would have a go at making some sparkling trainers for her.  You were not going to see her shoes under the dress and her feet would still be comfortable at the end of the day.

Decorate the shoes.

She had her heart set on on comfortable sneakers covered in rhinestones. The idea of spending hours gluing rhinestones onto the sneakers one by one did not inspire me at all.   I had a look on the internet and found these self-adhesive diamante rhinestones that came in a big sheet. You can pull them off one row at a time and just stick them to the sneakers.   If you have a small gap to fill these rhinestones can be pulled apart to fill the gap.

If you want to write a name on the sneakers like I did use a pencil. I used the self-adhesive diamonds around the front first when I should have started with the name first.  I used a thin marker pen to write what I wanted on the trainers.  We went with “MRS Pocius” which would be her new married name. Because I used a pen when the glue was added to the text the pen did bleed and smudge. I was able to hide the smudges with the studs.

Adding the name

I wanted the name to stick out from the rest, so I used dark blue rhinestones to do the name.  Unfortunately, I did have to add these stones one by one which was a pain in the butt. I used Tarzan grip glue for the stones but E6000 will work perfectly too. You can do the letters one at a time, so you have time to add the stones before the glue dries. To pick up the stones I used an old-fashioned technique called lick your finger and pick up a stone. The stones for the name were 1.5mm in size.

Once you have finished the name with the blue stones, you can fill any gaps with the clear stones. I also ordered some clear 1.5mm clear rhinestones to fill in the small gaps in the name.

The front of the shoes looked a bit boring and the self-adhesive diamonds did not stick to the rubber so well.  I went back onto the internet and found some heart-shaped rhinestones which I glued on to the front. They were really cute and the colour from the light looked great.

Add a wedding date.

As an added feature you can also add a date to the back of the shoes.  I followed the same method of writing the words first and then filling them in with the rhinestones.

I did try and change the laces to ribbons, but I was not impressed with the look, so we stayed with the laces.  She looked totally stunning on her wedding day and her shoes went down a treat.  I think she was the only women who did not have sore feet by the end of the day.

I also wanted to share some other beautiful wedding day ideas with you.  If you have a loved one that has passed away.  To have them with you in spirit on your wedding day you can get a memorial candle. The idea is to have the lit candle sitting on the bridal table so the passed on loved one can be with you in spirit. These candles can be personalised with a photo and verse of your choice.

To honour her dad on her wedding day not only did her walk her down the aisle, but he also got these beautiful cufflinks.  On one side was a photo of the two of them when she was small and one the other a photo of them all grown up. She also presented him with this personalised hankie which he needs when she gave it to him.

LOVE HEM SHOES!!! BUT!! MINE WILL HAVE TO BE IN GOLD! May 31, 2025 we will hit our 50 years! and I am slowly working on it now. I have my Minster, who went to school with our our son and I have my hair dresser, who also went to school with our son. So gold tennis shoes will we worn. I’m known to wear caps 24/7/365. I’m a redhead and baseball caps were always on my head! My Sister-n-law will pick up” caps and just happened to have picked up a GOLD SEQUINS COVERED CAP, Everyone said we won’t make it! I should have made that bit! I’m Irish and Hubby is German! After the renewing of our vows. So guess what I’m wearing that day? It will be outdoors and shorts, tee shirts bring a blanket, lawn chairs! I want OUR DAY to be FUN! When we were married it was formal and my mom and aunt ran the show or MY show. They both eloped so I guess why. Which was okay for me, because that Wednesday I had just graduated high school! So I was all over the place! I love getting idles from the wedding e-mails and just add GOLD to it for mine. Thank you so much! And, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRIDE & GROOM
