How to laser Engrave a Steampunk TV Tray (xTool P2)

Just before Christmas, I received the xTool P2 laser for review. Now that the review is over, I’m free to let my creativity run wild. This laser cutter and engraver is so great that I’m constantly looking around my home for items to use with it. Recently, I found a wooden TV dinner tray that I decided to use with the machine. With my new Steampunk TV Tray, I can now enjoy my dinner on the couch without having to balance it on my lap.

In today’s post, I will share my thoughts and experiences using the xTool P2 CO2 laser.

Laser Cut silhouette wall art

Today, I’d like to share my experience using the xTool P2 laser conveyor system for a project. I chose a simple design because I didn’t want anything too intricate that would take a long time to cut. After some searching online for a design I thought this laser-cut silhouette wall art “Tree Lovers” would look amazing on my bedroom wall.

Laser Engraving Wine Barrel Staves

Today I will be testing laser engraving wine barrel staves using the xTool P2 Co2 laser’s game-changing feature “curved surface”. I have done a number of projects using wine barrels over the last few years, from making coffee tables to outdoor tables with built-in wine buckets. I also have a lot of loose wine barrel staves which I now see as an opportunity to engrave names or quotes on staves for bar decorations in the future. Through this experiment I hope to gain a better understanding of the ease and possibilities of this feature for future projects.

Aluminium Can Art

I am always trying to find new ways to recycle the waste we generate at home to save it from going to recycling centres or landfills. In this project, I am sharing how I upcycled some aluminium drink cans into Shimmering Aluminum Can Art. My idea was to create an image of a star and then cover it with small circles cut from aluminium drink cans.

Broken Terracotta Pot Planter

Repurposed broken terracotta pot They have done it again! The latest victim of my two Jack Russell terrorists was my beautiful terracotta pot. It has become a regular occurrence for them to destroy things around our home.  I was hoping they would have outgrown that destructive stage by now, but no such luck.  On a positive note, they do keep me in project ideas. And converting that broken terracotta pot into a planter was my next project. Continue Reading →

Easy Hot Glue Wall Art

Hot glue art

Besides doing Diy projects I also love to do mixed media art.  My aim for this project was to try and create a wall hanging using a hot gun to add some texture to the surface of my canvas. When I create a mixed media art canvas, I like to try and add an assortment of textures to the surface before I start to add my layers.  Some people may think this is a waste because most of it will be covered up.  But once you start adding the metallic wax paste it will show all the hidden details that were not really visible before. In this post, I will share a few examples of how you can use your hot glue gun to create wall art for your home. Continue Reading →

Restoration of Captain’s Chair

How to restore a vintage captain's chair

This captain’s chair was sitting outside in the rain at my chiropractor’s office waiting to go into the skip. During my treatment, I mentioned the chair to him and asked if I could have the chair to practice on.  I had never restored a Captain’s chair before and thought it would be good practice for me. If l failed I had lost nothing but my time and the chair could continue its journey to the tip.

Aluminium Can Wall Hanging

How to recycle aluminium soda cans into wall art

If you follow my blog you will know that I try and create all my projects from recycled materials.  In our house, we all love Pepsi Max, which leaves us with a fair few aluminium cans. Instead of sending them to the recycling centre, I wanted to try and create an aluminium can wall hanging with them.  Because aluminium cans are not very big, I wanted to create a wall hanging that was made up of smaller panels that could be arranged in different designs on the wall. So your wall hanging can be changed around when you get bored with the design. Continue Reading →
