If you’re a lover of science fantasy, industrial technology and vintage then these steampunk projects will be right up your street. I am a total steampunk fan and somehow steampunk always seems to creep into many of my projects in some way, shape or form. I also like to try and make unique projects that you don’t see every day. For this post, I have put together a round-up of 20 Steampunk Project Ideas.
At the end of 2019, I came across a steampunk mixed media project on Pinterest and it was love at first sight. I went on to Youtube and watched a few step-by-step tutorial videos and realised it was not hard as I thought. I thought I would have to be an artist to do mixed media, but I was wrong. If you can see past the messy process, you will have no problem doing mixed media art. I also try and make all my projects from mainly recycled materials which keep my costs really low. You may also notice that I use the same embellishments in all my projects, so once you have purchased the moulds it is a cheap process.

1. Steampunk Mannequin
This steampunk mannequin was made from an old shop mannequin I found in a thrift store. She was covered in scraps of faux leather first to give the appearance of a patchwork surface. Most of the embellishments were made using resin moulds and bits and bobs found lying around my house. This tutorial will show you how all the elements were made and put together.
2. Steampunk sock gnomes
You just have to look on Pinterest to know sock gnomes are all the rage for every occasion. To make my sock gnomes unique I gave them a simple steampunk makeover. They were made in the same way as the regular sock gnomes they were just given fancy steampunk hats and beards.
3. Steampunk prop camera
The inspiration behind this project was the need for photography props to stage my projects for Pinterest. I had no luck finding an old vintage camera, so I made one from cardboard and a soda can.
4. Steampunk Hat made from recycled materials
When you think of steampunk the first thing most people imagine is the hat and goggles. I made mine using a plastic bucket and cardboard and used my resin moulds and broken jewellery to decorate it.
5. Steampunk Lamp
Another popular project you see are lamps made from galvanised pipes. I put my own spin on the idea and gave it a mixed media makeover using mainly recycled materials.
6. Steampunk resin doorknobs
If you are someone that does furniture makeovers and can never find doorknobs to match your project, this post is for you. You can make your own doorknobs and add items to match your theme into the resin. If you have a beached theme dresser you can add some shells to the resins for example.
10. Steampunk mirror
You can also give everyday furniture a steampunk makeover.
11. Steampunk altered bottle
I am sure we all have empty wine bottles and interesting bottles at home. They can also be saved from ending up at the landfill by turning them into lamps or home decor.
12. Steampunk Doorstop
I needed a doorstop for my front door in summer, this steampunk gnome was made using cement and an old plastic bottle.
13. Steampunk ring holders/shoes
With this technique, you can decorate your shoes for a special occasion. Alternatively, you can turn them into holders to display your rings or just decorate your shoes for a unique look.
14. Mixed media steampunk heart
This cardboard steampunk-themed heart would make a great gift for valentines day. You can take any special occasion and give it a steampunk theme.
15. Book repurposed into a jewellery box with a steampunk theme
Now that books are not as popular due to the change in technology many are ending up in the landfill. Why not repurpose them into a unique jewellery box.
16. Steampunk themed wedding canvas
Are you looking for a unique keepsake gift for a special occasion? You can make this canvas and add elements from their special day into the theme.
17. Man cave sign with a steampunk theme
If you have a hard to buy for man in your life, this sign idea will be a hit.
18. Steampunk suitcase protectors
Do you find yourself standing at the airport carousel looking for your suitcases among the 100’s? With this personalised suitcase cover, you will protect your suitcase and spot it straight away.

Painted books are all the rage in home decor at the moment. This technique will show you how to turn any image into a book cover.
